Homecoming Spirit Competition for Student Groups (2025)


Basic Information

Islanders! Get ready to BE SEEN, BE LOUD, and BE SPIRITED!!

Register your student organization(s) now to see if you have what it takes to be the most spirited group on campus and win nearly $1000 for your organization!

All teams must have a minimum of 10 participants on their roster. Organizations may pair up to create a team.  

This includes a possible $300 for the top point earning organization, and the winners of Be Seen and Be Loud will earn $150, winner of Be Spirited will have the opportunity to earn $150 for the Decorating of the ‘I’ and $150 for the Spirit Chalking Contest for the organization. 

Registration Deadline: Friday, February 21 by 11:59 PM.

There are 3 types of points that can be awarded for various Homecoming Activities:
BE SEEN, BE LOUD, and BE SPIRITED.

BE SEEN:
These points are awarded for designated events and are based on the percentage of registered members that attend the event (registered members will be uploaded below).

The following are events that are eligible for attendance points (click here for event details and descriptions):

  • Islander Clean (Sunday, 2/23 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. University Center North Porch - Anchor Plaza)
  • Islanders Baseball Game (Sunday 2/23 at 3 P.M. Whataburger Field)
  • Bluesday Tuesday/Anchors Aweigh (Tuesday, 2/25 from 12:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. in Anchor Plaza)
  • Faculty v Staff Basketball Game (Wednesday, 2/26 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Dugan Center Gym) 
  • Women's Basketball v. UNO Game (Thursday, 2/27 from 5 P.M. – 9 P.M. at the American Bank Center)
  • Lighting of the "I" (Friday, 2/28 at 6:30 PM on East Lawn) *Check-in will cut off at 7 p.m.  

BE LOUD:
Organizations will use the group's Instagram page for Homecoming week (cannot belong to a person). They’ll post a photo, video, or original graphic each day in line with the theme for that day. No story posts are allowed. Judges will score the content for use of school spirit and originality of theme, and award points based on content of the entire week.

Organizations will receive finalized instructions and themes will be posted in advance!

BE SPIRITED:
Organizations will be given a wooden "I" for decoration and a 3x3 concrete space for the Chalking Contest. Rules are located on this form and will also be posted on the Homecoming 2025 I-Engage page as a part of the 2025 Spirit Competition rules.  

BONUS CATEGORY-Homecoming Court:

SCORING:
For scoring, details will be provided to groups before the beginning of the competition.

Tuesday, January 28th, 5 P.M. (location TBD) 
Wednesday, January 29th at 5 P.M. (location TBD)
Thursday, January 30th at 1 P.M. (location TBD) 

 

Please upload a list of members from your organization who plan to participate in Homecoming events. MUST INCLUDE FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, AND ISLANDER EMAIL. PARTICIPATION LIST MUST BE UPLOADED IN AN EXCEL SPREADSHEET.  Please do not upload a pdf of a spreadsheet.  

This is the list that will be used to determine percentage of participants for attendance points.
